Privacy Policy — Steps2MATH

Effective: 6 September 2026

Controller: Eckhard Nees, Nees Consult, Gleiwitzer Straße 5, 91058 Erlangen, Germany. Contact via the legal notice.

This policy applies to the Steps2MATH Mac app (bundle ID de.neesconsult.Steps2MATH.mac) on the Apple Mac App Store.

What data does the app process?

  • Exercises and solutions stay on your device. Steps2Math documents (e.g. .steps2) are stored locally or, if you enable it, in iCloud Drive. Apple processes iCloud data under Apple’s privacy policy.
  • Preferences (language, visible panes, last exercise) are stored locally in UserDefaults.
  • Optional error reports: If the app cannot process an exercise, you may send the exercise content to our server userfeedback.steps2math.de so we can improve the solver. This happens only after you confirm in the dialog (or if you chose “always send”). We do not send account data or advertising identifiers.

No ads, no tracking

We do not sell personal data. The app does not use Apple-defined tracking (no cross-app tracking, no tracking domains).

Legal bases (GDPR)

Local storage and optional iCloud documents are needed to provide the app (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Optional error reports are based on consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR); you can decline the dialog.

Retention and your rights

Delete local data by removing files and the app. We keep error reports only as long as needed to fix issues. You may request access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, and portability, and you may lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (in Bavaria: Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht).
